Pain-relif lotion with curcuma extract

Even the youngest and the fittest of us will need some handy muscles and joints relief after a heavy work-out, an unusual strain or a long shopping day (can you even remember those days?)

In this almost KISS emulsion we have relied on the old house-medicine. Ingredients such as:

Arnica oil

St John's wort oil

Curcuma longa extract

Black cumin extract

Wintergreen essential oil

Rosemary essential oil and

Lavender essential oil

These ingredients have been used for centuries as a balm, a wrap or a compress to relief muscle and joint pain and some of our customers have created professional sports products or specific massage products for elderly using these ingredients.

The formulation and procedure are rather easy and straightforward yet the skin feel of the emulsion is amazingly nice and silky. There is no soapiness and no tackiness thanks to the blend of gums and the emulsifier. We deliberately kept the viscosity in a medium range so that the emulsion is easily applied but by varying the ratio of butter to oils you can increase or decrease the viscosity.

Procedure:

1- Blend phase A and C in separate heat-proof beakers

2- Disperse and hydrate the gum blend (phase B) in phase A @RT

3- Heat phase A+B and C in a water bath between 82-85 C

4- Emulsify the oil phase in the water phase

5- Start cooling down while stirring

6- When the temperature reaches under 50 C add the sensitive phases (Phase D and E)

7- When the emulsion reaches <35 C add the preservative system and the essential oils.

The preservative system works independent of the pH (in the video however we have measured the pH before adding the preservative just by habit. You can skip this step and measure the pH after adding the preservative and the essential oils. Since the preservative and the oils don't have any impact on the pH you can do it either way)

8- When the emulsion reaches the room temperature prepare a 10% dilution and measure the pH. In our case it was 6,65.

9- Reduce the pH by adding lactic acid. If you are making this formulation for the first time add the lactic acid gradually and measure the pH in between.

10- Prepare another dilution of the emulsion and measure the pH. In our case it was 5,26. We are aiming for a pH between 4,9-5,5.

11- Take the stability and micro kit samples and fill the rest in a suitable container
