Good night lavender foot balm (2 ways)

Sometimes the simplest formulations lead to the most amazing results and these two balms are a living (well not quite living) example.

We have prepared two KISS foot balms which are waiting to be placed over your nightstand and send you to the land of sweet dreams after you apply them.

As most of our formulations and tutorials we have prepared 2 versions. One version is the simpler and more basic and the other is more elaborate. They look quite similar except for the fact that the modified rice starch used in the elaborate version imparts a dry and powdery skin feel compared to the richer skin feel of the simple version. In the video we will show you how to make the elaborate version with the rice starch but you can prepare both of them and see which one you prefer.

These balms are made with G2B and have a much higher thermal stability compared to a conventional balm but they take a longer time to settle and reach the final consistency. The procedure is rather straightforward. The key to getting a nice and non-grainy balm is to cool down gradually and under stirring.

We have whipped both balms. Obviously the color will be slightly darker if you decide not to whip.

Formulation:

(the simple one)

Phase A Dosage
Glyceryl dibehenate 20,0%
Shea butter 20,0%
Phase B
Camelina oil 45,6%
Olive squalane 2,0%
Triheptanoin 10,0%
Tocopherol 0,3%
Lavender oil 0,5%
Sweet orange oil 0,5%
Phase C
Pigment blue 0,1%
Allantoin 1,0%

The elaborate one (with starch)

Phase A Dosage
Glyceryl dibehenate 20,0%
Shea butter 20,0%
Phase B
Camelina oil 40,6%
Olive squalane 2,0%
Triheptanoin 10,0%
Tocopherol 0,3%
Lavender oil 0,5%
Sweet orange oil 0,5%
Phase C
Pigment blue 0,1%
Allantoin 1,0%
Modified rice starch 5,0%

Procedure:

1- Blend phase A in a heat resistant beaker.

2- Heat in a water bath between 75-85 C until the G2b is completely melted

3- Blend phase B in another beaker

4- Blend phase C and use a powder sieve to add phase C to phase B. The sieve avoids building lumps and allows a uniform dispersion of the powder in the oil phase

5-When phase A is completely melted stop heating, start cooling down while stirring occasionally

6- Add phase B+C to phase A and blend

7- Start whipping. You may need to repeat the whipping-cooling cycle several times till you reach the desired texture

8- Fill in suitable jars. When the balm has solidified and reached RT. It might still seem very runny but at this point you can easily fill it in jars.

9- Wait for the consistency to fix for 24 hours
