This is another Halloween specialty and again you can make this formulation in any form and all through the year. These are marbled shower bars
The most challenging part of the procedure (for novice formulators) is pH measurement and adjustment. Here you need to be fast and perhaps do some adjustments after you have made your first batch. Since the bars settle and harden rather fast you don't have much time to fuss around the pH. You need to take a sample for pH measurement when the batter is still warm and fluid and pour your batter in the mold cavities. You will then come back to pH measurement and based on the results you have you need to adjust the amount of the lactic acid you use in the next batches. Make your first sample only in 50-100 gr batches and scale up after you are happy with the pH (we aim for a pH between 4,5-5,5 for adults)
We prepare one batter and then divide it and add the activated charcoal to one part and pour the two alternatively in the mold cavities. If you are a soap maker and have made marbled soaps this is the same procedure with the difference that the batter will settle rather faster compared to the lye soap. If you are making this kind of product for the first time you can make it simple and go monocolor.
Procedure:
1- Blend phase A and B in heatproof vessels
2- Heat both phases around 90 C
3- When both phases are uniform blend A and B
4- Stop heating and add phase C and blend. This helps reducing the temperature and you can then add the Panthenol and the essential oil.
5- Take a sample for pH measurement and put is aside
6- Divide the batter in 2 parts (we usually take 2:1) and add the activated charcoal to the smaller part.
7- Pour the batters alternatively in the mold cavities (like the video below)
8- Put the mold in the fridge between a few hours to overnight
9- Go back to the pH sample. Make a 10% dilution and measure the pH
10- Depending on the pH you get adjust the lactic acid dosage for your next batches (we aim for a pH between 4,5-5,5)
