For me, facial toners are a necessity in summer as well as in winter. It seems to me like I am watering my skin when I use them. Something no cream, gel or balm can do the same way.
This is an easy to make toner with our pineapple extract.
There are a few points to consider when making this formulation (or any toner for that matter)
1- We are using a preserved hydrosol that has a low pH. If you are using pH sensitive ingredients you need to add them after the pH is adjusted
2- If you are using distilled water or a hydrosol or floral water with another pH range then your results will certainly be different and you may need to apply a base to increase the pH or an acid to reduce the pH (I didn't mention any of them in the formulation because we didn't use any of them here)
3- We leave the scent to the geranium hydrosol. Our pineapple extract is rather neutral in scent and doesn't contribute to the scent. If you want to use any fragrance oil or essential oil you need to use a solubiliser to incorporate it in the formulation
4- The preservative system we are using is sensitive to pH. We need to measure and adjust the pH (if needed) before and after adding it.
Now let's jump to the formulation and procedure:
Procedure:
1- Blend phase A in the main vessel
2- Add the powders and blend. We make our toners with a magnetic stirrer but you can even use a spatula for small quantities
3- Take a sample and measure the pH (here the viscosity is low and you can measure the pH directly). In our case the pH was 4,98. We know that our preservative blend increases the pH so we added the preservative without any pH adjustment
4- Add the preservatives. Take another sample and remeasure the pH. In our case it was 5,27 and we didn't adjust it. Depending on the ingredients you are using you may need to use a base or an acid to adjust the pH between 5,2-5,5
