This is certainly not a KISS formulation. I have made this facial balm for myself because my skin is extremely dry this fall and I prefer a balm instead of a lotion. The outcome was so awesome that I couldn't help sharing the formulation with you.
I have used my favorite ingredient G2B. This ingredients need a high temperature for complete melting. If you do not melt it completely it will feel grainy as you apply it. When you use G2b the balm will look juicy, almost like a cream (as you can see in the photo) yet it has a superior thermal stability compared to conventional balms. It still easily melts over the skin as you apply a light pressure.
When you use G2B, the balm needs a longer time to settle. It will look very runny for about 2-5 days and this will give you enough time to fill the balm in suitable jars. Do not judge the texture and consistency immediately after the balm is solid. Give it a few days up to one week and then decide if you like it or not.
Apart from the plant oils and extracts I used two other "natural" emollients: Emogreen C69 and Triheptanoin. These are awesome emollients with a silky skin feel and with the advantage that they improve the oxidative stability of the balm and increase the shelf life. You can replace them with any favorite oil of yours but I suggest you take oils with a low iodine value. The texture and skin feel will however be slightly different.
Procedure:
The procedure is really straight forward.
1- Melt phase A between 85-90 C
2- When phase A is completely melted stop heating and add phase B
3- Start cooling while stirring till the balm reaches a medium trace. At this point you can whip it or fill it in suitable jars
